SideNotesIM - Why can't I purchase SideNotesIM any longer?

The original SideNotesIM messenger was introduced in 2008 to compete with hundreds of similar IM systems that were locally hosted on user's computer networks at the time. However, as many organizations have moved their business operations into the cloud, their communication systems have followed, especially since these can track with users as they move from phone to desktop to tablet, anywhere in the world. For businesses that do not work with protected health information (PHI), most of these solutions are either provided for free or as low-cost additions to their other workflow solutions, effectively halting sales of all IM/chat programs on the market.

For offices that do work with patient data; however, the free or low cost versions of cloud-based IM systems are not compliant with HIPAA and PIPEDA requirements, so they must either pay for expensive monthly services, or use other low-tech systems such as walkie-talkies, call systems, pagers, room flags, or phone intercoms to communicate throughout the building with the right people, at the right time. Coupled with the fact that it's rare for everyone on a clinical team to sit at one computer, the decision was made in 2015 to incorporate the SideNotesIM source code into another communication program we had at the time, BlueNote Lights, and roll them out as a single system. This way, users that sit at single workstations can be messaged privately in the form of Conversations, while clinical demands are met by the use of a community Light Panel. Instead of sending messages to users and hoping that the right person reads each one, Lights are digital office-wide fixtures that can be turned On from any computer or device and turned Off when tasks are completed.
